YRF's youth division Y-Films announces 3 new movies featuring 7 new stars
Yash Raj Films' new youth films studio, Y-Films, launched with a bang in a young & fun event in line with the audience its catering to. Themed like an 18 year old's house party, the event unveiled its aggressive line up of 3 releases for 2011. Keeping with its vision of being a platform for new talent, Y-Films also showcased the fresh crop of directors and stars of the 3 films.
The first of Y-Films' releases would be Luv Ka The End featuring Shraddha Kapoor and newcomer Taaha Shah. Directed by Bumpy (who was earlier associated with MTV Roadies), the film has a foot-thumping soundtrack by Ram Sampath and is slated for release on 6th May.
The 2nd film under Y-Films is Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge which is a rom-com against the backdrop of social networking. The film is interestingly titled and is a cheesy take off on one of YRF's own earlier releases and incorporates colloquial internet lingo used for making friend requests. Directed by Nupur Asthana, it introduces 4 new faces - Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad, Nishant Dahiya & Tara D'souza and marks the Bollywood debut of desi folk-rocker Raghu Dixit as composer.
The 3rd film under the Y-Films banner is Virus Diwan, a tech-based caper, which is the story of India's youngest and most twisted hacker. With a tagline that reads 'Enter. Infect. Escape', it's the launch pad for Arjun Kapoor (son of veteran producer Boney Kapoor).
Speaking on the new studio, Aditya Chopra, Vice-Chairman of Yash Raj Films, stated, "The youngest country in the world. Housing the largest movie going audience in the world. Youth! Its a segment that's not just too big - but too important - to ignore. Y-Films continues YRF's trend of breaking new genres. With a laser-sharp focus on youth, we hope to create a brand of cinema that will capture the hearts & imaginations of this elusive bunch and rock their world. Here's to a new revolution - that begins with 2 fingers!"
Y-Films is headed by Ashish Patil, formerly head of youth music channel, MTV in India. Patil adds, "Y-Films promise to deliver kick ass films of the youth, by the youth, for the youth. And be a platform for new talent - both on screen and behind the scenes - who will challenge, break and set new rules of story telling. Get ready to spread the Y-rus!"
The event played out the exclusive first looks of the 3 films and a ground-breaking new stop motion music video from its first release Luv ka The End.

Kareena to launch 'Bebo' range of handbags
Just recently, Kareena Kapoor was appointed as the brand ambassador for Laive handbags. One thing that the company noticed is that since the leggy damsel was signed on, the sales picked up. In response to this sudden rise in sales, the company has decided to come up with a special edition of the bag.
The said special edition will be titled Bebo, after the actress's nickname. Currently, the actress is in talks regarding the bag line. As there are multiple aspects that need to be considered like the selling and marketing as well as Kareena's involvement including her remuneration. As for the clutches, they will be a high- end collection in gold, silver, beige and black and will bear her signature.
Way to go 'Bebo'!

Big B v/s Emraan Hashmi - An unusual clash
Emraan Hashmi wouldn't have suspected this to ever happen. However unbelievable it is on the cards with Amitabh Bachchan turning out to be his on-screen rival. Though the day is still a little far away but come 8th July and Big B's Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap would be taking on Emraan's Murder 2 in theatres.
"Though it would be a matter of pride for any actor to be in consideration for fighting it out with the legendary actor, the fact is that for Emraan, Big B's announcement of Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap has come as a little too sudden and quick", says a veteran industry insider, "Earlier there was a probability of Ajay Devgan's Singham clashing with Murder 2. However that clash was averted. Now with Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap coming on the same day as Murder 2, 8th July has become interesting all over again."
One waits to see what happens on this day since Amitabh Bachchan v/s Emraan Hashmi clash does make for an interesting episode ahead. The kind of films they do are poles apart and a marked difference in their age groups with generations separating them also means that audience would be keenly awaiting the two to take on each other.
"The clash would be terrific if it indeed takes place", the source adds, "Big B would be returning as an angry man, though much older, with Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap. It would be after years that he would be seen flexing his knuckles and would be seen in the kind of role that his die hard fans want to see him on."
"On the other hand, one can well expect the 'serial kisser' to be back in action with Murder 2 which is being devised as an adult drama", he continues, "After a few relatively sober films in the form of Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Crook and Tum Mile, Emraan too is looking at satisfying the expectations of his core fan base which belongs to the gentry. He is going to go all out with Murder 2 and along with his leading lady Jacqueline Fernandez ensure soaring temperatures."
On contacted, Mukesh Bhatt (producer of Murder 2) confirmed that he has no intentions of any change in plans and is sticking by 8th July as the film's release date.
Angry old man v/s the original serial kisser - Now with both actors playing by the image in which they have been loved the most over the years; this clash is surely going to heat up the summer even more.

"I am not Angelina for world to give me gifts" - Minissha Lamba
So for all these years the rest of the world thought and believed in the saying 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'. So if that's the case, Minissha Lamba would be really upset with her long lasting friend/s. It's less than 48 hours and Minissha Lamba is still fried - bheja fried for what people and the media have blown out of proportion. Even the latest Amul hoardings have taken her case, but before that it was the twittersphere that went berserk on her detention news. While some called her irresponsible, others seemed to be worried and concerned; some blamed her for false advertising while the others wanted to know the truth. Our very own Shobha De too voiced her opinion which the actress didn't take it that well. And in between all these things, a journalist like me could only pick up the phone, call Lamba and do an exclusive 'no holds barred' interview. The customs definitely must've followed the Veni, Vidi, Vici path. Don't worry Mini, we've got your back!
So, you thought you could bring anything and everything with you and clearly make it through the customs?
Well, I guess you can bring whatever you want as long as your paper work is in order. That's the impression I had and I have. I feel this whole detention thing that happened was mainly because of paper work and they wanted to know that. The studded jewellery that I had was taken by me from India and brought back. It was as simple as that
And what about stories that rumoured - Minissha Lamba carried gifts from Cannes by top designers?
There was nothing that was gifted to me at Cannes. I am not Angelina Jolie that the world out there will be sitting in giving me gifts.
But weren't you even aware of the basics of bringing what and what not while entering India from the overseas?
Nothing like this has ever happened to be before. The procedure requirements were really complicated. It's not a simple procedure. I am getting conflicting advice from the customs as far as the procedure to bring jewellery is concerned. The process to declare your studded jewellery is very different from the other accessories you bring from outside India. My question is - How is a regular person suppose to know that?
And you think all this was blown out of proportion or you were basking in the limelight?
I am somewhat of a known person and that's why the limelight. If it was to happen to anyone other than me then I doubt that it would've made such a big noise. I think it's all blown out of proportion. I just feel that the rules and regulations have become a big issue. The surprising thing was that I was getting a lot of text messages and calls from various people who knew me from Cannes Film Festival too. Such are the times that controversy travels at a lightning speed.
You gave Shobha De back on Twitter....what was all that about?
What I tweeted to Shobha De was in good humour and I don't want to comment on that further. She too must've done it in a good humour I guess and everyone has the right to defend themselves on a public forum.
You must be going through hell right now after all this?
I am very strong and it takes a lot for a person to make me go through hell. There is no one to be blamed in this. Laws are complicated. Things like going a day before to the diamond plaza to get your jewellery assessed and valued. Then they seal it and stamp it and then they send the courier consignment to the mentioned address, etc. All this is very confusing. I'm sure no one knew that this is one of the procedures one has to undergo.
Let me simply put it - You are Bheja Fried and you made a joker out of Shirish for not turning up on the sets too.
(laughs) What a time to have my 'bheja' friend when I am coming up with Bheja Fry 2. Plus, I didn't make a joker out of Shirish and the news of me landing on the sets ofJoker was untrue. I had to land up on the sets after two days post my Cannes visit. I am shooting tonight with Shirish.
So, lesson learnt?
But yes, lesson learnt that I need to buy a customs act book and need to go through the whole thing. I hope no one goes through what I have gone through.
And some good talk now. How was your experience at the Cannes Film Festival?
My experience at the Cannes Film Festival was exciting. It was beautiful. It was the most professionally organised film festival in the world. I would be in awe of how such a thing can be even possible. You need to be dressed up in your evening dress. No casuals allowed. Only formals. You have to be presentable and professional. I love that formality. Even if we had to go for a regular screening, you still have to be looking dapper. I hope that our entertainment industry and our law and order too are such well organised."
